Happy Memorial Day Weekend from Crossroads Farm!
 
 
During this busy weekend of barbecues and family activities, lets take time to remember the sacrifices our veterans and their families have endured to ensure our freedom.

 Up Next – Food Truck Rodeo Friday, June 15th!

The weather just refused to comply for our first Food Truck Rodeo of the season scheduled for May, so we’re trying it again in June!

Get ready for lots of outdoor fun. There’s family fun for all including hayrides, corn hole games, a bouncy house and face painting for the kids. Adults can enjoy craft beer from Lithology Brewing Co. and other local breweries. They’ll be wine and spirits from Long Island Beverage Brokers.   The food trucks that will be participating for this event: Empanada Queen, Good Eats Grill, Mr. Smith’s Seafood, and Frozen Sin.  

They’ll be entertainment by the Stagecoach Band of Long Island. And maybe, some dancing too!

Tickets for the Food Truck Rodeo may be purchased in advance  at the Farm stand or at the door.

Mark your calendar and join us for one or all of our fundraisers. There’s something for everyone in our new Barnyard Event Series. We are adding new food and beverage vendors, lots of exciting activities including line dancing, different and fresh local bands and more entertainment. It’s been a slow start to the season due to a very cold spring, but our fields are starting to thrive. This week we have our own organic baby lettuce mix, spinach, and herbs. We also have a variety of vegetable and herb starts for your garden including tomatoes, eggplants, peppers amd more.
From other Local Farms: asparagus, rhubarb, snap peas, rainbow carrots, red beets, Swiss chard, red & green cabbage, yellow & red Onions, shiitake mushrooms, baby spinach, baby arugula, beefsteak tomatoes, and cherry tomatoes.

We will be enhancing our volunteer program to increase your knowledge of farming. We’ll also teach you some biodynamic principles to use on the farm and apply at your homestead.

Our next orientation is Sun., June 3rd at 10:30 AM.   At these orientations you will learn about the farm and the different activities and opportunities you may participate in.  Please click the link below to sign up.

Volunteer Opportunities in June

 

 

Come join us at the farm and enjoy a day outside while you get your hands dirty. We are preparing the fields, sowing seeds, planting, transplanting and harvesting.  Join us to help get the fields growing and learn some farming skills, while you mingle with the staff and other volunteers.

 

On Sunday, June 3rd from 12pm – 2pm, we’ll be preparing Field 2 for tomato planting.

On Monday, June 4th from 3pm – 5pm, more Field 2 preparation

On Tuesday, June 12th from 9:30am – 11:30am, Field 1 preparation and maintenance.

On Friday, June 15th from 8am – 10am, transplant Calendula flowers

On Thursday, June 21st from 3:00pm – 5:00pm, work with strawberries

On Tuesday, June 26th from 8:00am – 10am, harvest what’s ready!

On Thursday, June 29th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, trellis tomatoes

Our First Food Truck Rodeo of the Season is Fast Approaching!!

 More outdoor fun to be had at Crossroads Farm’s first Food Truck Rodeo of the season. There’s family fun for all including hayrides, corn hole games, a bouncy house and face painting for the kids. Adults have some craft beer and wine while your little ones play and enjoy the outdoor fun.   The food trucks that will be participating for this event: Empanada Queen, Good Eats Grill, Mr. Smith’s Seafood, and Frozen Sin.

Our Next Workshop is Sunday, May 20th – Create Your Own Skin Salve

 

Join us at Crossroads Farm for a workshop on creating a healing skin salve. We’ll walk through the farm and identify and harvest wild plants that have topical benefits. After, we’ll use these plants,and herbs harvested last season to make a skin ointment. Each participant will leave with their own salve and a jar of soaking herbal oil.

Volunteers Needed for the first Food Truck Rodeo of the Season on Friday, May 18th

 

 

Our first Food Truck Rodeo of the season is almost here. Your help is what makes our fundraisers a success. We’ll need assistance setting up and breaking down, pouring drinks, collecting tickets, helping with activities, and more. Please join us between 4:30 PM and 9:30 PM to help out. If you’re unable to work the whole event, please sign up anyway we’re grateful for any assistance you can provide.

We are fully stocked on our very own honey, stock up for the allergy season while supplies last.

The store will have Crossroads own NOFA certified organic seedlings this weekend including: red cabbage, green cabbage, oak leaf lettuce, buttercrunch lettuce, romaine lettuce, red cross lettuce, encore lettuce (mixed greens), Damsel tomato, San Marzano tomato, German Johnson tomato, Martha Washington tomato, Soroya sunflower, Mammoth sunflower, Hopi black eyed sunflower, Red velvet sunflower and Nastursium.
